PRESS RELEASE

 

The Department for International Development (DFID) of Government of United Kingdom has agreed to provide a grant assistance of 33 million Sterling Pound (approximately Rs 5.08 Billion) for the implementation of Integrated Programme for Strengthening Security and Justice Project.  

 

This project has mainly three components:

 

First component is the Prevention of Gender Based Violence (GBV) against women and children. The program aims to increase knowledge on existing legal provisions and services related to prevention and response to violence against women and children, provide support to child welfare, enhance capacity of Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare; Department of Women and Children and related institutions for effective GBV prevention. This component will be executed by Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare (MoWCSW) through Department of Women and Children and the Women and Children Offices in districts.

 

The second component is to Modernization and Improvement of Nepal Police. It aims to modernize Nepal Police to be gender responsive and disaster resilient, strengthen operations and maintenance capacity of police facility and equipments, capabilities for forensic investigations and stronger police public partnership. This component will be implemented by Nepal Police.

 

The third component is technical cooperation for service provided by non-profit organizations, including under the Governance Facility (the Non-for-profit Component). This component will address social cultural barriers to accessing security and justice services.

 

The Agreement was signed by Mr. Madhu Kumar Marasini, Joint Secretary, International Economic Cooperation Coordination Division, Ministry of Finance and Mr Mark Smith, Acting Head of Office DFID Nepal on behalf of Government of Nepal and the Department for International Development (DFID), respectively.

 

The Government of Nepal has expressed its sincere appreciation to the Department for International Development (DFID) for this assistance and for its continued support to the socio-economic development of Nepal.
